The service took place in Mr Mandela's ancestral home of Qunu, in the east of the country.
Around 4,500 people, including many foreign dignitaries, attended the ceremony, which took place inside a specially-erected white dome. Formal tributes from some of Mr Mandela's former friends and colleagues were mixed with traditional rituals, singing and dancing.
